Why the Law Needed a Serious Upgrade

Let’s start with a really simple question. What is it? I mean really. What is this law of attraction really? Where is it? What is it made of? How do you get access to it? Is it even real? is it something somebody made something up because it sounded really good? Is it just wishful thinking and coincidence?

Well it is real. It is very real. Just like gravity and aerodynamics are real. It really is a law but it is not the same kind of law as gravity or aerodynamics.

But it is also not a god. You don’t have to make offerings to it. It is not a god that you have to make offerings to. It is not Santa Clause handing out goodies based on who’s naughty and who’s nice. It’s not a genie with the catalog of the universe. It is none of that.

It’s an internal law and yet it operates independent of our beliefs about it. So it needs to be understood. It is just is what it is and it needs to be understood at it is, on its own terms.

You know the Wright brothers didn’t just put anything together and it flew. It had to be in precise shape and weight and dimensions in order for the law of aerodynamics to be effective. If you didn’t meet those rather strict requirements, you didn’t get off the ground. They tried a lot of different designs before they finally got one that flew.

But it finally did fly. But that was just the beginning. It was another three years after that historic first flight before they had an airplane that could do anything. The first plane got about 20 feet in the air, went about 120 feet and lasted 12 seconds. And, oh yea, you could barely steer it.

Over the next several years they came up with a plane that could go high enough, and carry enough weight to do anything useful. Not only that but they had to learn how to fly the thing. There weren’t any flight schools then. That first plane was a novelty. Nothing more.

So when you first hear about the Law of Attraction you were a bit like the Wright Brothers hearing about Bernoulli’s law. (In case you don’t know that is the law that makes it possible for a wing to fly. It also makes air conditioning possible but that is another story.) Just like them, you saw the possibility. And just like them you started learning about it and experimenting with in your life. And, just like them, you met with way more failures than successes.
